Northeast Heights
Landscaping and hardscaping in Northeast Heights.
Established yards, mature plantings, and a slope to work with.
The Heights has the oldest landscaping in the metro that anyone still actively maintains. A lot of these yards were planted in the seventies and eighties and have been growing ever since — which means mature shrubs worth keeping, and overgrowth that has quietly taken over the beds it was meant to edge.
The ground tilts here. Running down off the Sandias, most lots have more fall across them than people realise until it rains, and that slope decides where water collects and which retaining and edging actually has a job to do. Getting the grading right matters more here than on the flat.
Because the plantings are established, the useful first move is usually a cleanup rather than a rebuild. Cut back what is overgrown, see what is actually there, and then decide what is worth keeping. Plenty of Heights yards need far less work than the owner assumed.
What I do here

What it costs
Real numbers, before you call.
Most contractors make you book an appointment to find out whether you can afford them. These are honest ranges for the Albuquerque metro — enough to know where you stand.
- Front-yard gravel or xeriscape conversion $2000–$3500
- Paver walkway, around 40 linear feet $2000–$4500
- One-time yard cleanup $400–$600
Every job gets an itemized written estimate before any work starts — labor, materials, and haul-off, line by line. The range is a guide; the estimate is the number.
What moves the price
- How much has to come out first — old rock, sod, concrete, or roots
- Access: whether a wheelbarrow fits through the gate, or everything goes by hand
- Slope and drainage, which decide how much grading the base needs
- Haul-off volume — debris is priced by what actually leaves the site
- Material choice, which moves cost more than most people expect
